Building Collapse Puts Focus on Concrete Strength

The recent collapse of a nearly-new seven storey building with a consequent tragic loss of life was put down to poor-quality materials. The building may well have been built illegally anyway but even so, a properly built construction, whether legal or not, should never fall down.

Forty-five people are believed to have died. A few days later up to seventy-one people lost their lives in Mumbai as another building under construction collapsed. Local officials report that 'the structure was weak'.

Building standards were presumably ignored, but these tragedies highlight the importance of concrete and construction materials testing in the 21st century. Almost every major building project on the planet, and the vast majority of smaller ones in the developed and developing world rely on concrete's uniquely-tailored structural qualities.

We're proud to be able to offer some of the very best quality concrete testing and construction materials testing equipment available anywhere in the world. Designed and built by our partners at Testing Bluhm and Feuerherdt Gmbh in Germany, the equipment is robust, precise and surprisingly affordable.
